Did you know that by the time babies reach their first birthday, they will have learned all the sounds needed to speak their native language? Everyone tells you that reading to babies is very important for their language and vocabulary development, and it’s true! Reading teaches babies about communication, builds listening skills, and introduces concepts such as numbers, letters, and colours in a fun way. The more stories you read aloud, the more words your baby will hear and the more easily they will be able to speak.

1 classic story: Whether it’s Good Night Moon , The Very Hungry Caterpillar , or anything by the author Mem Fox, these are the books your child will remember loving and reading over and over again.
2 silly stories: Learn by laughing along with Sandra Boynton, Robert Munsch, or Dr Seuss.
2 tactile stories: Babies learn by doing. These tactile books (touch-and-feel, pop-up, turn-and-learn or lift-the-flap) will engage your baby’s senses.
1 longer story: One story that goes beyond a board book. Caregivers will enjoy the character development, and babies will build their attention span as time goes on.
1 “my-size” book: This tiny book will fit perfectly in their tiny hands. Babies will love to hold and turn these pages all by themselves.
1 educational book: Colours, shapes, opposites or counting, oh my!
1 animal book: Babies are naturally drawn to animals. Help them learn who says moo and who says neigh.
